10 Hard Rock Music Songs Artists Want You To Forget
4. Rocka Rolla - Judas Priest
There's a strong case to be made for Judas Priest being the first true heavy metal band. While Sabbath and Zeppelin may have started everything back in the '70s, they were still considered to be on the hard rock side of the spectrum before Priest brought out the leather outfits and turned it into a lifestyle. Before the bondage gear came out though, Rocka Rolla had Priest in a much different light, and one they do not want to revisit any time soon.
Compared to the songs we would hear on their sophomore album Sad Wings of Destiny, the entire album Rocka Rolla feels like a completely different act, with the only thing in common being Rob Halford's high end voice. There's a good explanation for that though, since most of this album revolves around original singer Al Atkins, who wrote most of the material for the record before eventually dropping out because he didn't think that the band had much of a future.
Though the 'not having a future' part may have been true, that was only for this version of the band, which sounds more like a jam band that your stoner uncle would have liked back in the early '70s alongside Grand Funk Railroad. There might not be too much wrong with that particular style of music, but most metalheads would trade this for Screaming for Vengeance any day of the week.
