10 Hard Rock Music Videos That Got Banned

8. Travolta (Quote Unquote) - Mr. Bungle

Before he joined Faith No More and gave them a massive shot in the arm, Mike Patton was the lead singer of experimental rock outfit Mr. Bungle. From their very first album in 1991, the band won fans over with their irreverent take on the alternative scene. Their music videos were also totally off the wall, as demonstrated by this one for their very first single.

Travolta, which was also called Quote Unquote to avoid a lawsuit, is a semi-psychedelic, semi-gothic song supposedly about the Grease actor. You wouldn't be able to work that out from the video, which contains no flying cars or leather jackets at all.

Instead, it features a nightmarish collection of images, including the band wearing various creepy masks, hanging by their necks from meat hooks. That must have been in the Grease director's cut...

MTV took one look at this utterly unhinged clip and went "you're alright". It was banned from the channel for being too scary, too disturbing, and just too damn weird.

The fact that the lyrics also mention Adolf Hitler's name in the same sentence as Johnny Boy's probably didn't help its case either.
