10 Hard Rock Music Videos That Got Banned

2. Jesus Christ Pose - Soundgarden

You've heard the old saying "never discuss politics or religion at the dinner table?" Well, it turns out those rules apply to music television as well.

Grunge legends Soundgarden wasted no time in establishing that their video for Jesus Chris Pose was going to feature Christian themes. Before the action fully kicks off, some text appears on screen saying "And God So Loved Soundgarden He Gave Them His Only Song." Subtle? No. Effective? Absolutely.

The video itself is a complete onslaught on the senses; a barrage of flashing images, repetitive sounds, and distorted colours. It also features a whole ton of crucifixes, including a pro-feminist visual of a woman being crucified.

Feminist or otherwise, this video got the band into all sorts of trouble both at home and abroad. Jesus Christ Pose has never been shown in its entirety on MTV; partially due to its length and partially due to the backlash the song faced when it came out.

The band got death threats over it during a UK tour, as many faith groups perceived this song to be anti-Christian.
