10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Were Almost In 2 Legendary Bands
9. Trent Reznor - Queens of the Stone Age
Throughout the history of Queens of the Stone Age, it's been abundantly clear that there's an open door policy when it comes to members. Aside from Joshua Homme steering the ship for these stoner rockers throughout the years, the amount of special guests and fully-fledged members of the group have been endless, from Elton John guesting on Like Clockwork to Dave Grohl joining their ranks for all of Songs for the Deaf. For all of the genre hopping going on behind the scenes, fans missed the opportunity for the ultimate clash of industrial sludge.
On the surface, Era Vulgaris is one of the most fractured releases in the Queens catalog. While songs like Make It Wit Chu and 3's and 7's worked well on radio, there always seemed to be something lacking. This came down to having the wrong producer, as Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails was supposed to come on behind the board before timing issues fell through.
Even though these things happen in the music business, the idea of Homme and Reznor bouncing their musical ideas off each other would have made for a truly disturbing experience, which Era Vulgaris seemed to be only hinting at. We did eventually get some collaboration when the title track was released as a B-side, and yet the possibilities for what could have been still sting that much more.
