10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Were Almost In 2 Legendary Bands
7. Keith Moon - Led Zeppelin
As rock has gone on, it's clear that we'll probably never see another drummer with the strength of Keith Moon. Being one of the biggest jokesters in rock music, you can hear that hectic energy in every single drum roll he plays, whether it's the straight-forward groove of the Seeker or the pure insanity on Won't Get Fooled Again. Though Keith works best playing off Pete Townshend and John Entwistle, he also could have had some more rock royalty on his resume.
Around the time that the Who were coming up with more conceptual material on The Who Sell Out, Moon actually got a call from his friend Jimmy Page about a new band he was putting together. Fresh out of the Yardbirds, Page asked Moon if he'd be interested in forming a group with him and session bassist John Paul Jones, tentatively titled as the New Yardbirds.
Seeing how the Who were onto something unprecedented with Tommy, Moon wasn't ready to leave his old mates, telling Page that the idea of him joining this new group would go over like a lead balloon. While Moon thrashed away under Townshend's riffs, Page took Moon's jab very seriously, christening the group Led Zeppelin before becoming one of the biggest acts in heavy rock. Considering we got another monster drummer out of the deal with John Bonham, Moon probably did us rock fans a favor by turning Page down.
