10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Were Almost In 2 Legendary Bands
6. Courtney Love - Faith No More
Courtney Love tends to be brought more as a trainwreck these days rather than for her actual music. Though she has made lots of questionable decisions in the public eye over the years, the amount of punk rock energy she brought across with Hole is some of the greatest examples of riot grrrl music in the '90s. Then again, that punk energy may have gone a different direction if she had stuck with another outfit.
As Love herself explains, her escapades on the West Coast scene eventually turned into an audition with Roddy Bottum of Faith No More. Looking to have an eclectic musical outfit, Love began to fit right in when playing off of the zany guitar skills of Jim Martin. On the other hand, Bottum's decision to send Love packing simply came down to wanting a different sound for the vocals, which they eventually found in Chuck Mosley and Mike Patton respectively.
Love was not going to fade into obscurity though, forming Hole just a few years afterward and eventually becoming the Yoko Ono of her generation when she married Kurt Cobain of Nirvana. Even though Love's attitude would have worked with Faith No More's mentality, it probably worked out for the best considering the multi octave vocal range of Patton. While Love has really fallen off in recent years, the fact that she was able to pull off the funk metal magic for a little while is proof enough of her chops.
