10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Were Almost In 2 Legendary Bands
5. Marc Storace - AC/DC
The idea of replacing a lead singer in and of itself is nearly inconceivable for rock bands. Seeing how the frontman is normally the mouthpiece for the entire group, how the hell are you supposed to get people to identify with a new face that they barely even know? Or in AC/DC's case, how do you replace someone as off the wall as Bon Scott?
Before going with the razorblade vocals of Brian Johnson, the Young Brothers actually thought they had an ace in the hole with Marc Storace, who was making a name for himself with the band Krokus. Though this would have been Marc's one way ticket to stardom, he did the unthinkable and actually turned down the offer to sing on what would become Back In Black. Even though this looks like a boneheaded move today, Storace actually had the real argument of not wanting to live in the shadow of Bon Scott for the rest of his career.
It also helps his argument when you realize that the idea of a Bon Scott-less AC/DC seemed dead in the water at the time. However, Brian Johnson's eventual turn behind the mic was completely spellbinding, with tracks like Hells Bells and You Shook Me All Night Long becoming the definitive AC/DC songs for a new generation. The idea of Marc Storace fronting AC/DC may have sounded good at the time, but if the Young Brothers had had their way, we probably wouldn't be talking about these Aussies with such reverence these days.
