10 Hard Rock Musicians Who Were Almost In 2 Legendary Bands

2. Slash - KISS

Yeah, KISS had a serious problem trying to hold onto guitar players as the '80s wore on. Even though Vinnie Vincent proved to have at least a little bit of staying power on albums like Lick It Up, the previous album Creatures of the Night may as well have not had a set lead guitar player, with one session player after the next playing on every song. The times may have been so hectic that Paul Stanley didn't even notice the genius little kid who turned up for an audition.

Amid the amazing talent like Bob Kulick on the studio floor, the search for a new six-stringer led to a kid named Saul Hudson turning up one day. Though the kid's chops were amazing, Stanley was a little skeptical in giving the job to someone so young. Keep in mind, this was the early '80s, when Stanley and Simmons were pushing 40 and Saul was barely even into his 20s. While Stanley said that he could definitely play, there was no real reason to go with someone so young.

Slogging it out when he went to Los Angeles, Saul quickly transformed into what we now know as Slash, who reinvented what rock and roll would become with Guns N Roses on Appetite for Destruction. KISS may have a ton of great players among the ranks, but something tells me this is the one guitarist that Stanley still kicks himself over for letting slip through his fingers.
