10 Hard Rock Song Lyrics That Nobody Understands

1. Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy And Alcohol

From Queen's of the Stone Age's iconic sophomore album, Rated R, the song Feel Good Hit of the Summer brought with it a seven-word drug-list verse lyric - 'Nicotene, Valium, Vicodin, marijuana, ecstasy and alcohol', which is repeated ad infinitum throughout the song.

The line may be simple, straightforward and largely meaningless, but that hasn't stopped it being (mis)understood in countless possible ways. Many revellers have interpreted the song as an endorsement of its content; a hard rock anthem for living fast and partying hard, though QOTSA singer Josh Homme has stated that the track features the words in a void and "doesn't say yes or no".

On the other side of the coin, some radio stations and shops banned the track on release, viewing the lyrics and single art, which features Feel Good Hit of the Summer spelled out in pills, powder and tobacco, as a promotion of drug abuse. However, the band struck back, arguing that the grimy, unglamorous cover was a warning in itself. That being the case, the irony of the title is lost on no-one.
