10 Hard Rock Songs By The Beatles
2. Revolution
Before releasing their spectacular double disc White Album, the Beatles bestowed on the world one of the greatest rock songs ever with "Hey Jude." With its sing-song chant and powerful emotion, the song became a favorite of all rock fans almost instantly. After flipping the record over, fans were met with the group's harshest sonic assault yet.
Starting off with John Lennon's furious guitar opening, "Revolution" is one of the band's heaviest moments, both sonically and lyrically. With the Vietnam War still looming in the background of the public consciousness, Lennon penned lyrics that talked about his own disillusionment with revolution. Throughout the song, he hints that nothing good can come from destruction and that minds that hate will never prevail in bringing peace to the world.
In order to make his song a smack in the mouth, Lennon did the improper recording choice and plugged his guitar directly into the console, resulting in an absolutely booming sonic presence that created a fantastic distorted result. The lead breaks taken in the solos are fantastic blends of raw emotion and technical precision. This song may not have sparked a call for world peace overnight, but "Revolution" was the first call for everyone to wake up from the war-driven nightmare.
