10 Hard Rock Songs That Almost Killed Great Albums

8. Hot Dog - Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin is one of those few acts in hard rock that have somewhat of a golden halo over their entire body of work. Considering we only had them for a short while, the few albums that they ended up putting out in such a short span of time have had fans eager to give each effort a 10/10 out of respect alone. Though Zeppelin had plenty of talent to spare, you can't act like In Through the Out Door doesn't have its flaws.

That's not to even disparage the album proper, with tracks like All my Love and Fool in the Rain being some of the most underrated Zeppelin cuts of all time. However, there is a bit of a slip on Hot Dog, as they try to inhabit what sounds like some sort of rockabilly groove. While Zeppelin hadn't been strangers to adopting different genres into their own, this play on what sounds like Elvis Presley really isn't a good look on them, as Robert Plant's vocal stylings almost turn into self parody after a while.

When put up against the other experimental songs Zeppelin would write, this makes something like D'yer Ma'ker look like a damn masterpiece. There's nothing wrong with making a goofy song, so long as it adds character to the album...and this is one of the few instances where Zeppelin committed that one musical offense.
