10 Hard Rock Songs That Are Impossible To Understand
5. Hey Bulldog - The Beatles
There's at least a dozen Beatles songs that John Lennon has gone on record saying that he hated. Despite having some choice words for the works of his former writing partner Paul McCartney, Lennon was also cynical towards his own work, with everything from Dig A Pony to It's Only Love being deemed mediocre in his eyes. Though, he may have a point when talking about Hey Bulldog.
Being one of the few rocking moments on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack, this song has one of the greatest riffs of the Beatles' later period. At the same time, this is one of the most incomprehensible lyrics that Lennon has come up with, as one minute he's talking about a sheepdog standing in the rain and then talking about a possible killer walking the park. Then again, it seems that Lennon has some kind of mulligan for this.
Originally scheduled to make a music video for Lady Madonna, the Fab Four's decision to work instead resulted in this song, which became one of the most enjoyable sessions for the much-maligned Yellow Submarine album. It also didn't earn the song any points given that this was the first thing that Yoko Ono was present for, marking the start of Lennon's eventual separation from the rest of the group. Hey Bulldog may still rock, but good luck trying to find any deeper meaning behind a wigwam being scared of the dark.
