10 Hardest Drumming Songs In Hard Rock

4. Disposable Heroes - Metallica

Things have started to really turn a corner for Lars Ulrich ever since the early '90s. While his style of thrash drumming was suitable for the time of Master of Puppets, the more straightforward beats of the Black Album and the questionable live performances over the years have had many fans questioning whether Ulrich had lost his touch behind the kit. Although you could classify his recent style as unique, Disposable Heroes is proof enough that what Lars does actually takes some serious chops.

Bred in the Ian Paice and Neil Peart school of rock and roll drumming, Disposable is one of the most intense performances Lars had ever committed to tape during Metallica's prime. Spanning over 8 minutes, this is as much about endurance as it is about hitting every single element correctly, as Ulrich keeps up with the speed of James Hetfield's right hand note for note.

When talking about the Black Album, Ulrich even went into detail about trying to nail the perfect drum track, going so far as to punch in as much as he could to make sure it was the tightest groove imaginable. Combined with the relentless speed of Motorhead and the fine attention to detail of someone like Mike Portnoy, Disposable is the result of the feral animal lying deep inside the "businessman" of Metallica.
