10 Hated '90s Rock Songs That Are Actually Really Good

5. Deep Blue Something - Breakfast At Tiffany’s

They may have one of the worst names in rock history and inexplicably write songs about then-30 year old films; they may be one hit wonders in the truest sense of the world. Nevertheless, Deep Blue Something’s singular smash is a crisply recorded, upbeat joy of a song about finding common ground.

Perhaps the softest rocker to employ Pixies’ famous quiet verse/loud chorus dynamics, “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” doesn’t exactly tear the roof off when it bursts into life, but the sunshiney burst of drums and super smooth guitars can’t help bring a smile to the face.

It helps that singer Todd Pipes has a genuinely excellent voice, ready made for pop radio. This is a song for the masses, everything polished and clean, and while that won’t exactly win you a lot of indie credibility, it makes for a fine sounding single.

As naff as the song is, it’s a timeless piece of work by a band who kept it simple with great results. Inescapable from its launch, it’s bound to outlive the film from which it takes its name.
