10 Hated Bands That Are A Lot Better Than You Think

1. John Mayer

For a mass contingency of rock fans, John Mayer's name seems like it's not meant to be named like Voldemort at this point. I mean, any self respecting rocker wouldn't be caught dead listening to some of the douchier sides of rock that Mayer has spat out over the years, right? While his personality does put him at a disadvantage for most, no one can argue the chops that this guy has.

Being a graduate of Julliard, Mayer is actually the real deal behind a guitar, putting together different playing styles to create his signature sound. Even though something like Gravity might seem simple on the surface, the actual execution of every bend feels like it's being done with a master's touch. Rising to prominence with the album Continuum, Mayer created one of the most smooth sounding pop rock albums of the modern age, working with greats like Pino Palladino to flesh out the rest of his sound.

That's not to say he's a slouch behind his own instrument, with spellbinding performances on both acoustic and electric giving him opportunities to jam with the likes of the Grateful Dead over the years. Despite all of the setbacks that come with being John Mayer, there's still a certain subsect of guitar players who know the real genius at work behind the fretboard.
