10 Hated Bands That Are A Lot Better Than You Think
3. U2
You'd be hardpressed to find another band in the entire '80s that felt as important as U2. While other new wave acts like Duran Duran may have had more mainstream attention, the impact of something like the Joshua Tree turned into a watershed moment for rock as a whole, as Bono became one of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock and roll. Then again, you already knew that didn't you?...because Bono won't let you forget it.
Ever since their immersion into the alternative sphere on Achtung Baby, U2 have made a lot of questionable career choices to make them seem bigger than they are, whether it was trying to appeal to trends like with Get On Your Boots and even attempting to make the Orwellian choice of delivering us their album without our consent with Songs of Innocence. Then again, it's not like they can't deliver on their promises either, with most of their work having some major punch behind it.
In lieu of just making cynical cash grabs, these Irish lads have a bit of a reputation for never doing the same album twice, which has made for great political records like War along with later career renaissances like on All That You Can't Leave Behind. Regardless of what soap box Bono decides to speak on from one day to the next, the music has always remained solid from front to back.
