10 Hated Bands That Are A Lot Better Than You Think

4. Hootie and the Blowfish

With the arrival of the alternative revolution, there also came an influx of bands looking to just cash a paycheck. Regardless of what neck of the woods they came from, acts like Silverchair and Bush tended to be labeled as people just looking to ride the coattails of what the original grunge bands had left. On the other side of the sphere though, you had the more sensitive side of things with Hootie and the Blowfish.

As far as rock and roll is concerned, Hootie was a far less threatening animal than your Pearl Jams of the world, instead acting like the regular good old boys who just happened to be in an ultra-famous rock band. Aside from the boy next door quality of their image, a lot of their music had a lot more force behind it. Being fans of acts like R.E.M., a lot of the songs on Cracked Rear View have an incredible gift for melody, whether it's the love smitten fool in Hold My Hand or the heartbroken sap drinking a beer in Let Her Cry.

Even up until their breakup in the late '90s, Hootie still made some nice mellow rock and roll, with Darius Rucker spinning it into a country solo career later down the line. While their songs might still be played in karaoke bars around the world, Hootie and the Blowfish still have a few decent jams that deserve their place in history.
