10 Hated Rock Albums That Are A Lot Better Than You Remember

8. The Red Album - Weezer

The mid '00s was not the best time to be a Weezer fan. Though the pop punk nerds were riding high off the strength of singles like Beverly Hills and Perfect Situation, you could tell that there wasn't the same spark you got from their something like the Blue Album and Pinkerton of years past. While The Red Album was a sign of darker things to come, it doesn't get enough credit for being the band's most adventurous release.

At the same time, there are a few duds in the track listing, with Troublemaker being a pretty clunky lead single and Everybody Get Dangerous being one of many dad rock moments to turn up on here. On the other hand, songs like the Greatest Man That Ever Lived is definitely a first for Weezer, with a myriad of different styles thrown into one epic song. Not all of the genres are done amazingly well or anything, but it's a worthy artistic choice regardless.

This is also one of the few times where we get to hear the other members of the group sing, with Rivers Cuomo taking a back seat on most of the back half. Hell, even the corny single Pork and Beans is well worth the price of admission. As opposed to another nail in the coffin, The Red Album is just a lopsided album that soothed things over right before things got too ugly.
