10 Hidden Details In Legendary Rock Songs
7. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith
For all of their bluesy background, there was always a psychedelic element to Aerosmith in their early days. Though songs like Same Old Song and Dance and Walk This Way may have taken the sounds of the Yardbirds and put some boogie behind it, a track like Seasons of Wither had a much different feel, with sounds swirling around the mix that made every note feel like it was floating in the air as they played. And when it came to their most psychedelic song yet, Sweet Emotion actually had some choice words for one of their former managers.
In between the amazing bass line and Steven Tyler's snide lyrics aimed at Joe Perry's girlfriend, the breakdown riff actually features lots of backwards passages, like a drum loop being played backwards to give off that sucked down sound. On the same track that they recorded that loop though, the band decided to throw in a tribute to one of their old managers named Frank, who had either helped them out or sponged off of them in the early days depending on which band member you ask.
While you can definitely hear the name Frank if you play the track backwards, it's up in the air what they're saying before that, from some members claiming it says "F*** you Frank" and others saying it was actually "Thanks Frank." Regardless of how he worked out as a manager, the man had to be doing something right if he shoehorned his way into one of the band's classic hits.
