10 Hidden Details You Never Noticed In Hard Rock Songs
8. 515 - Slipknot
For anyone looking to get into the heavier side of metal, Iowa by Slipknot has pretty much everything you could ask for.
Dialing everything up to 1000 for their sophomore release, these 9 freaks from the album's namesake state made one of the most delightfully disturbed albums of the modern age, with songs that made you headbang and scared you to death at the same time. It's easy to just let out aggression, but the very start of the album was rooted in real pain.
Starting with a huge scream, it feels like the album is set to go from 0 to 100 right out of the gate. While Corey Taylor has been known to indulge in some epic screams over the years, this one was actually performed by DJ Sid Wilson. After returning to the studio after the death of his grandfather, Wilson was given a mic and told to just vent his frustration in the studio.
As opposed to conjuring up anger for anger's sake, this scream is the sound of a broken young man trying to make sense of losing a close family member. Iowa was bound to be something massive upon release, but when you had this kicking everything off, you knew that what you would be in for was anything but pleasant.
