10 Hidden Details You Never Noticed In Rock Songs
6. Rocket - Def Leppard
By the time Def Leppard got around to making Hysteria, they really had their work cut out for them. Along with being able to measure up to their already massive success with Pyromania, the tragic accident of drummer Rick Allen pushed the record back even further when he lost his arm. Though they eventually rose from the ashes, they did have some fun when working on the song Rocket.
Compared to the love ballads and rockers on the rest of the record, this song is pretty much a goof when it comes to the lyrics, as Joe Elliott just names off every glam rock band that inspired him to pick up music in the first place. Since this is a track that relies primarily on the drums though, a simple guitar solo wasn't going to suffice. Entering the world of sequencing, the entire middle section is a practical hodge-podge of every other track on the album.
Just before the lead guitar lick comes in, you get to hear things going off in different sections, from the chorus of Gods of War being played backwards to bits and pieces of the song Love Bites being chopped up and manually triggered. Whereas a track like Pour Some Sugar on Me might get the higher accolades, the sheer amount of stuff crammed into Rocket might make it the most emblematic track on Hysteria.
