10 Highly Underrated Rock Music Album Covers

3. Music From Big Pink - The Band

1968 was one of the greatest years in music history. There was the aforementioned White Album, Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland, Cream's Wheels of Fire, Van Morrison's Astral Weeks, and Deep Purple's debut.

Also, there was this entry from a band called... The Band.

Getting famous off the back of supporting Bob Dylan on his first all-electric tour, The Band struck out on their own and released their debut album Music from Big Pink.

As well as containing excellent tunes like The Weight and I Shall Be Released, Music from the Big Pink also sported a stunning front cover. This vibrant, surrealist piece was painted by none other than Mr. Dylan. It seems to show The Band themselves, albeit in crude form, playing their instruments in the shadow of a charred black tree.

Oh, and there's also a woolly mammoth.

The artwork for Music from Big Pink is just as bold and full of character as the album itself. The fact that it has a connection to one of the most legendary figures in music history is a nice bonus.
