10 Highly Underrated Rock Music Drummers

7. Dominic Howard - Muse

Muse aren't the most popular band in the world; something about their ultra-polished sheen just seems to turn hardcore rock fans off, and Radiohead fans never seem to get on with them, even though those two bands are decidedly different.

This hate is massively unjustified, as the English group have provided some incredible songs in their near-25-year-long recording career. Supermassive Black Hole; Knights of Cydonia; Time is Running Out; Hysteria; Plug In Baby; these are modern classics and drummer Dominic Howard has been present for all of them.

Howard joined up with Matt Bellamy and Chris Wolstenholme (who was originally a drummer, but reluctantly switched to the bass) and Muse's first album was released in 1999. Since then, he's been a steady hand at the tiller, always keeping things interesting without ever overstepping the mark.

Sometimes, it's a drummer's job not to be noticed, to take care of the basics whilst the rest of the band do all the fancy stuff. The fact that Howard has been involved in so many great songs in his career without ever getting much attention should actually be a badge of honour.
