10 Highly Underrated Rock Music Drummers
5. Mitch Mitchell - The Jimi Hendrix Experience
Unfortunately, "Mitch" Mitchell's real first name was John. He wasn't called "Mitchell Mitchell", which would have been great.
After his career as a child actor didn't work out, Mitchell moved into music, taking up the drums as his weapon of choice. He spent some time in Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames, before eventually being chosen as the drummer for The Jimi Hendrix Experience via a coin toss.
Stuff was a lot more relaxed back in the '60s.
Mitchell played drums on all three of the Experience's albums and would join the maestro for his solo Cry of Love tour after the band broke up. His other ventures included a role in The Dirty Mac, a fictional supergroup created for The Rolling Stones' Rock and Roll Circus film. Other members included Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and John Lennon.
Though it was never flashy, Mitchell's drumming style didn't need to be. Hendrix was the star attraction, so there was no point in trying to compete with him. Instead, he provided a psychedelic atmosphere for the master guitarist to play over, helping one of the all-time greats achieve his full potential.
