10 Highly Underrated Rock Music Drummers

4. Charlie Benante - Anthrax

When Pantera got back together in 2022, they needed to find a drummer to replace Vinnie Paul, who had sadly passed away in 2018. They decided on Charlie Benante, best known for his time in Anthrax, and there's a very good reason why.

To put it simply, Benante is a legend of the game. He's been the drummer for every single Anthrax album, helping to develop the band's signature sound and pioneer the art of metal drumming as a whole.

He was one of the first performers to adopt the double-bass style of kick drum, as well as being responsible for introducing blast beat (a fast, frenetic style of playing) to the world of thrash metal.

Benante's beautifully-demonic playing pattern helped establish Anthrax as one of the most dangerous bands on the planet and made thrash one of the most exciting subgenres rock has ever seen. He doesn't get nearly enough credit for the changes he helped usher in.

With Anthrax still going strong and showing no signs of slowing down, hopefully Benante will continue to entertain metalheads around the world for many years to come.
