10 Hilariously Bad Musicians That Are Crazy Successful
9. CC Deville - Poison
You can't really fault many of the hair guitar bands for having virtuosos behind the fretboard. Ever since Eddie Van Halen blew open the doors for more technical prowess on the instrument, it was pretty much expected that bands have guitarists who could cover something like Eruption note for note. While sometimes you got a George Lynch or Paul Gilbert out of the deal, mostly you'd get stuck with CC Deville.
That's not to say that CC is even the worst guitar player in the world. Hell, compared to the rudimentary playing seen out of the lower end of the punk spectrum, he's actually fairly decent. The only problem is that he tends to overplay too much and favor the flashiness over a coherent melody. Take something like Talk Dirty to Me for example. The solo starts off fine before going into some fast action, but these sick leads are so rudimentary you can pick them up in your first solos lesson.
Although not too technical, the way that CC delivers it makes it look like it's one of the most mind-bending techniques that any artist can hope to muster up. You got to give him this though, CC does embody Poison to a tee: it's neon colored and good on first glance, but it's only until a matter of time before you realize that you've done something terrible to your body.
