10 Hip Hop Songs With Surprising Samples

6. Eminem's "Beautiful" Samples "Reaching Out" By Queen & Paul Rodgers

Many consider Eminem to be the greatest MC of all time and they have every reason too. In a genre where lyrical wordsmiths rule the roost, the Detroit rapper has risen to the top among the other greats and simply cannot be denied his place. However, it's probably safe to say that the Eminem people grew up with who are now in their mid-20s isn't quite on the level of the Eminem of today. In fact, some of the newer stuff he's released is pretty tame and boring. That being said, Slim Shady has put out some good tracks from his latest efforts, especially the song Beautiful which samples legendary British rock band Queen and former Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers on their song Reaching Out. You shouldn't be too surprised at Eminem using Queen as a sample for a song, after all he is the guy who sampled Dido for Stan, arguably his greatest song ever. For lack of a better term, the way the sample is used by Eminem - who also produced the track - is beautiful. The opening guitar licks and Paul Rodgers' voice instantly catch your attention, probably because he's using a live version of the song. So when Em comes in with some very brutally honest lyrics about being depressed and trying to get away from that feeling you're already hooked by every word coming out of his mouth. It'd just be nice if he could do this more often these days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgT1AidzRWM https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MC-n8_QLbDE
