10 Horrible Hard Rock Songs By Great Artists

2. Stupid Mop - Pearl Jam

At the start of the '90s, Pearl Jam was the one band who seemed truly unstoppable. While Nirvana's rise to fame was like a ticking time bomb at the best of times, these 5 rockers from Seattle had honed down their alt rock sound to a science, with brilliant ballads put next to hard rock fire starters. After Vs. though, things started to get weird really fast.

With Eddie Vedder struggling with his newfound fame, the band's third album Vitalogy showed them delving into art rock and throwing every outlandish idea into the mix. We did end up getting great songs like "Spin the Black Circle" and "Nothingman," but the album's closer "Stupid Mop" is one of the most off-putting things to ever find its way onto a Pearl Jam record.

Looking to pay homage to the more avant garde side of rock, this piece was assembled from Vedder recording people on TV who were being interviewed from an insane asylum. Though this song does earn the distinction of being the debut of Pearl Jam's fourth drummer Jack Irons, this kind of experiment doesn't necessarily scream "welcome to the band" or anything. While the best Pearl Jam tracks make you want to raise your fist in the air, this song left every fan scratching their heads as to what the hell they just heard.
