10 Huge Artists Who Got Snubbed At The Grammys
5. Kendrick Lamar
Ever since it started to gain popularity, the Grammys have had an odd relationship with the world of hip hop. While some of their choices are dead on like awarding Mrs. Lauryn Hill for her colossal debut record, they have just as many head scratchers in their back catalog as well. And when we had one of the most forward looking rap albums of the past decade come out, they couldn't have looked further backwards when deciding the winner.
By all accounts, Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid Maad City was one of the biggest game changers in hip hop, framing his life in Compton as one of the greatest concept albums ever and turning Kendrick into the greatest of his peers. So you'd imagine where all the awards went that year. Yep...they went to the guy who got famous off of the song Thrift Shop.
Granted, Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis' album the Heist is far from a bad record, having a lot of charisma behind it and being a breath of fresh air at the time. When you look back on the rest of the albums up for Album of the Year at the time though, even records like 1989 by Taylor Swift stand out a little bit more as the years go on. Though it's easy to just call this another colossal fumble for the Grammys, Good Kid Maad City still hasn't aged a single day since it first came out.
