10 Huge Songs That Bands Refused To Play Live
7. Like A Virgin - Madonna
The title track of Madonna's sophomore album, Like a Virgin gave the '80s pop sensation her first ever US No. 1 single.
Also, more importantly, it gave us Weird Al's Like a Surgeon, which was actually Madonna's idea in the first place.
This is the song credited with taking Maddy's career to new heights. Its infectious beat and her sugary sweet vocals made it a must-play on both the radio and the club circuit, whilst her various extravagant performances of the number kept her in the headlines.
According to setlist.fm, Like a Virgin is Madonna's third-most played track live with the Queen of Pop giving over 400 renditions of it. That might be why, in 2008, the star said she was done with.
“I’m not sure I can sing ‘Holiday’ or ‘Like A Virgin’ ever again. I just can’t,” she said. “Unless somebody paid me like $30 million or something.”
Come on everyone, hands in your pockets! Surely if we all pool together, we can get her to do it!
To be honest, Madonna's back catalogue is so dense by this point, that it's highly doubtful anyone will miss this one.
