10 Huge Songs You Wrongly Thought Got To Number One

6. Michael Jackson - Thriller

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOnqjkJTMaA Ok, don't bite my head off. A lot of you will be thinking that the dude who wrote this didn't do his research. 'Thriller' is the name of Michael Jackson's sixth studio album and also claims the right of the best-selling album of all time. With over 60 million copies sold worldwide you can't help but feel skeptical in thinking that 'Thriller' (the single) didn't reach the top spot. Well believe it or not, it was hardly a smash at all. It only just scraped the top 10 when released in 1983, and in Jackson's home country it only ever made it to number four. Maybe we just weren't ready for it. Culturally 'Thriller' is renowned as one of the best music videos of all time and has become the staple of Halloween playlists. Controversial at first but now adored by all generations, 'Thriller' is a one-of-a-kind phenomenon. Rarely does music and horror transcribe into popular culture so seamlessly. You know you've made a hit song when it's been parodied a thousand times on YouTube, as 'done-to-death' might be the appropriate choice of words. But it's hard to believe that a song as unique and iconic as this was merely just 'average' on release.
