7. The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRYNYb30nxU It's a common misconception that The Darkness were a one-hit-wonder band; the argument being; do they even deserve that title? Surely in order to be classified as a one-hit-wonder, then the song you become famous for should hit the number one spot? Sadly it turned out more blunder than wonder as this was not the case for Justin Hawkins hair-rock (but pop-friendly) band. I know it's tedious to argue over semantics but if your band is going to be remembered for a single track, you kind of assume it's a '15 minutes of fame' moment by peaking on the charts. But remarkably even though it didn't get the crown, The Darkness did achieve something incredible by delivering an unorthodox novelty rock song in the noughties; a one-of-its-kind spanning an entire decade. The music video was far from vanilla as it involved monster crabs and spaceships too, some people found it odd and others found it innovative. But part of The Darkness' charm was bringing entertainment back to the rock scene. The over-the-top zealous attitude was something that was severely lacking in the noughties and will probably render this song cemented as one of the best rock tracks of its era - despite only getting to number two.
