10 HYPED Albums That Didn't Live Up To Their High Expectations

8. The Fall - Gorillaz

You can never really get a read on how productive Damon Albarn is going to be with the Gorillaz project. For as long a wait as we had between something like Demon Days and Plastic Beach, it didn't take us long to get a follow up to Humanz once we were graced with the Now Now. When you release something only a few years after a classic though, you're bound to get a little bit of blowback.

In the wake of the Plastic Beach sessions, The Fall is still one of the weirdest projects to have the Gorillaz name attached to it. For the most part, all of these songs were just tracks that Damon made on his iPad when touring for Plastic Beach. While there's nothing wrong with recording on the fly like this, the whole thing feels more like a B-sides collection than anything else, going for something a lot more electronic with none of the hooks that we got on the last record.

Though there are some decent cuts on here like Revolving Doors, this doesn't really feel like a crucial part of the Gorillaz story, almost barely being connected to the cartoon world that Jamie Hewlett had been illustrating up until this point. An album of Gorillaz music is rarely ever a bad thing, but this is probably the last record that you'd want to dig up if you're looking through their entire catalog.
