10 Iconic Music Festivals You Must Attend In 2020
5. Rock In Rio (Lisboa)
Rock in Rio is a legendary rock event which originally spawned in, as the name would suggest, Brazil’s Rio de Janeiro. The first Rock in Rio was a record-shattering monster of a festival which saw approximately 1,500,000 attendees descend upon a 2,700,000 square feet “City of Rock” built specifically for the event.
Heroic performances from Queen, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Rod Stewart, Ozzy, Whitesnake and many more stapled the 1985 festival in history and, as such, a massive new rock event was born.
The Brazilian leg of Rock in Rio only takes place once every few years and, with there having been one in 2019, it’s not set to return until 2021. However, as the event has grown, it has birthed extensions in both Lisbon and Chile, with a 2020 Lisbon event confirmed for next year.
This will be the fifth time Rock in Rio comes to Lisbon, an event that usually hosts around 350,000 fans. These Portuguese events are not only much easier for rockers in the UK and EU to get to, but they also continue the trend of hosting massive acts. Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and Foo Fighters have all provided the soundtrack to the sunburn in Lisbon previously.
