Each June around 80,000 to 100,000 adoring fans make the pilgrimage to the sacred ground that is Donington Racetrack. Since Monsters of Rock 1980, this place has been known as the holy land for rock and roll in the UK. Download Festival has been on the go here since 2003 and has established itself as the largest rock festival in the country.

Playing host to near enough every big rock band still touring at one point or another, Andy Copping’s monster of an event dominates the UK festival circuit year in and out. Previous headliners have included Metallica, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Rage Against The Machine, Guns N Roses, Rammstein and- seemingly every other year at this point- Slipknot.

With such royalty taking to the stage, it’s no wonder Download brings in such a large crowd annually. Whilst other events are undoubtedly bigger overall, Download is the place to be for rock fans looking to experience a UK festival.

Tickets typically set you back around £220-£230 for a five day camping pass. Being a UK festival, the weather can be anything from tropical paradise to typhoon season. A combination of waterproofs and sun-cream is essential. And booze. An unholy amount of booze.
