7. Karen O

Since the Yeah Yeah Yeahs first appeared on the music scene in 2003, their vocalist Karen O has been wowing fans and audiences with a series of eye-catching and elaborate outfits. She possesses an ability to respectfully pull together influences from previous peacocks of the music industry, including Debbie Harry, Siouxsie Sioux and David Bowie, whilst at the same time maintaining a strong sense of ownership over her look, and creating something entirely new. With a distinctive style, yet a diverse one, Karen O is frequently found draped in a rainbow of colour and fabrics, or by contrast, she is equally at home in striking black leather and sharp lines. Having successfully latched on to a golden rule of the style icon, Karen O has also established her own distinctive sharp-bob hairstyle, which she has maintained (with several variations) for the length of her time in the spotlight and has recently dyed blonde with the release of Yeah Yeah Yeahs new album Mosquito. For ten years now, Karen O has been brightening up the music industry in her own unique way, and as one of the few contemporary additions in this top ten, I look forward to seeing how her style will continue to develop with time.
