10 Iconic Rock Stars Who Guested On Pop Songs
4. You and I - Brian May
From every direction she's made in the past few years, Lady Gaga has seemed like a music nerd in the truest sense of those words. Going from her Madonna sounding beginnings, she has gone through working with EDM artists on her projects to performing with Metallica at the Grammys and eventually nabbing an Oscar for a country leaning single of all things. And when you take a look at the back half of Born This Way, we should have all seen this coming.
While it would be tempting to call You and I a rock song, the kind of delivery that Gaga has almost verges on the country side of things, with an unstoppable hook that someone like Chris Stapleton would have nailed if he were given the chance. On the back half of the song though, we get a jaw dropping guitar solo from one of rock and roll's true monarchs.
Though Gaga could have gotten any session musician, drafting in Brian May of Queen to do this was just the icing on the cake, bringing in his wall of guitar sounds and making for one hell of a climax to the rest of the song. And really, would you really expect anything less from Lady Gaga? Most of her appeal is about going over the top whenever she can, so it's no surprise that she got Freddie Mercury's right hand man to deliver some licks onto this song.
