8. Slash - By The Sword Main Riff
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8t2rc29538 Now there are hours of riffs Slash has laid down over the years that thousands of articles breaking them down would barely even scratch the surface of, however for his first solo album back in 2010 he collaborated with a different vocalist on each song. Partnering with Wolfmother's Andrew Stockdale, the resulting saloon-door-swingin' groove of By The Sword was a real highlight, becoming that album's first single. Whilst the video featured will take you through the entire song, what we're looking at for the purpose of this article is the main riff that Slash opens the video with. With a wah-drenched solo and enough swagger to make the Rolling Stones take notice, By The Sword started the LP as it meant to go on, feeding into an album that would show Slash could adapt himself to many styles, from speed picking with Avenged Sevenfold's M. Shadows, to a raucous rock anthem with none other than Black Eyed Peas' Fergie.
