10. MGMT - Time To Pretend
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9dSYgd5Elk A relatively new band to start off with, this Connecticut psychedelic rock duo wowed us by releasing three incredible singles at the very start of career in the insanely catchy Kids, the suggestive Electric Feel and the one that started it all, the outstanding Time To Pretend. An anthemic ode to hedonism and excess, MGMT exploded onto the indie scene with the song that soundtracked every teenager that left school in the summer of 2008 (thanks to a very well-timed placement in the series finale of Skins). With its catchy synth hook and nihilistic lyrics (Well choke on our vomit and thatll be the end), its message was that were born with nothing and well die with nothing, but well have a hell of a time in between. Its a crying shame that MGMT have never been able to replicate the success of their acclaimed debut album Oracular Spectacular. Their sophomore effort Congratulations and third self-titled album failed to set the world alight in the same way and even the band themselves claim that they cant write a pop song anymore, but well always have that trio of killer singles at the beginning, with Time To Pretend sitting proudly at the top. Choice Lyric: Ill move to Paris, shoot some heroin and f*ck with the stars
