10 Incredible Blur Songs You’ve Probably Never Heard

6. Alex’s Song(Demo)

Alex’s Song, B-Side to End Of A Century, is as the name might suggest another effort from bassist Alex James. It’s a charming, if slight, acoustic strum rendered all but unlistenable but sped up, chipmunk style vocals.

The song was never destined for all time classic status but the tale of Dick and his girl sailing round the world was pretty enough and probably would have found a few devotees in the fandom. Sadly Blur made a choice that made the song actively unpleasant. It’s hard not to think they did it on purpose.

There’s no way of knowing if Alex wasn’t confident in his vocal performance, or maybe Damon Albarn still wanted to keep the bassist in his place. Luckily we do know how it could have sounded because years later Blur released a demo version as part of their 21st anniversary box set.
