10 Incredible Frontmen Who Don’t Get The Credit They Deserve

9. Steven Wilson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxDAjtPpWic The unassuming prog visionary has a quiet, slightly sarcastic way about him which when coupled with his bespectacled frame and polite voice, do not perhaps make for the most interesting frontman on paper. However, Mr. Wilson is loved for his down-to-Earth attitude and total lack of overcooked theatricality, instead preferring to let his exquisite musical meanderings provide the spice. As a songwriter Wilson is both prolific and daring, as evidenced by his large number of projects in a dizzying array of styles. Talented and ambitious, he is also friendly enough to reach out to other artists to bring his projects to life, with an instinctive Zappa-esque band leadership has allowed for some immensely talented individuals (including guitar wizard Guthrie Govan and drum maestro Marco Minnemann from The Aristocrats) to join him on the road as well as in the studio. Proof that the dry cool wit of the thinking man can win through in the modern musical climate, Wilson€™s hilarious response to a Lynyrd Skynyrd-loving Porcupine Tree fan€™s request for €˜FREEBIRD!€™ at the end of the Arriving Somewhere DVD remains this writer€™s favourite moment.
