10 Incredible Frontmen Who Don’t Get The Credit They Deserve
8. Richard Patrick
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Y-rfBGtAck Having had a career including a stint as guitarist for Nine Inch Nails, as well as fronting both Filter and Army of Anyone, Richard Patrick has been around. His voice has the capability of evoking calm and tenderness one minute, anxiety and pain the next, before exploding in a volatile fit of musical rage that Devin Townsend would be proud of. Arguably his main contributions to music have come through Filter, and it is in this band that he is most under-represented in the annals of rock history. With a string of songs of varying structures, length and ferocity, Patrick focussed his world view into a modern form of expression with a definite hat-tip to Trent Reznor, but without neglecting the melodic sensibilities of radio rock. Utilising an industrial metal bedrock fused with crushing intensity and soaring melody, Patrick is unafraid to stretch out. Indeed, Filters debut single, Hey Man Nice Shot, was written about the infamous televised suicide of US politician Budd Dwyer. Relaxed and charismatic on stage, his crowd pleasing performances communicate the intensity of the lyrics without ever becoming tangled in self-indulgence. Oh, and his brother was the T-1000. Dont pretend like youre not impressed. RECOMMENDED LISTENING: Title of Record (Filter)
