10 Incredible Frontmen Who Don’t Get The Credit They Deserve

5. Rod Jackson

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYNJ9Yt2Wxc Rod€™s rather brief time in the spotlight came through membership of the second incarnation of Slash€™s Snakepit, the band that Slash formed and leant his name to post-Guns n' Roses. His turbo-charged and energetic vocals lead this ramshackle mob through €˜Ain€™t Life Grand€™, the second album released under the Snakepit moniker, but unfortunately the critical reaction to the record was harsh to say the least - and this coupled with infighting and Slash suffering health problems during the promotional tour led to the swift breakup of the Pit, leaving Rod out in the cold. Jackson's vocals on the album remain intense and despite contrasting strongly with those of Axl Rose, fit perfectly with Slash€™s guitar style, never sounding out of control whilst being comfortable with balls-out rock, ballads and even a touch of jazz. With such limited material available to go on it is difficult to suggest what we€™re missing out on now without resorting to speculation, but Slash has a good record of working with talented frontmen/singers and Rod€™s vocals are well worthy of a mention here; it€™s just a shame he never got more of an opportunity to showcase his talents on the big stage, as his on-album performances suggest in time he could have been a force to be reckoned with.
