10 Incredible K-Pop Songs (That Aren’t Gangnam Style)
8. EXO - Growl
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3dezFzsNss&feature=youtu.beEXO is actually two groups, EXO-K and EXO-M, who sing in both Korean and Mandarin, the latter tailored for the Chinese market. With a total of twelve members, six in each division of the band, they are the biggest selling act in over a decade, and have won enough awards to necessitate several display cabinets.
Their videos are released simultaneously in both Korea and China, and are identical except for the members and the language sung. Their success has been so complete that in 2013 they opened their own clothing store in Sinsa-dong, part of Seoul’s trendy Gangnam district
Like Red Velvet, they are hugely popular with teenage girls, and you just need to take one look at them to realise why. Buzzfeed called them “dreamier than One Direction”, so in the current climate the time is ripe for them to step into the empty void that currently exists in the affections of Directioners. They wouldn’t even be fazed by the extra attention - EXO fans, known as EXOtics, are known to be just as devotional as anything UK fandom can create.
Growl is by far the band’s biggest hit, and is taken from their re-released first studio album of the same name, which has currently sold in excess of 1.2 million copies.
