10 Incredible K-Pop Songs (That Aren’t Gangnam Style)
7. Wonder Girls - I Feel You
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9QXQz6uE0MIn the last year or so, K-pop producers have collectively fallen in love with the 80s. Synths and retro drum machines seem to be featured on just about every new release, with some bands even revisiting that decade’s fashion trends in their videos.
At the forefront of this backward-looking trend is Wonder Girls, who are some of K-pop’s elder statesmen - or should that be states-ladies?
Launched in 2007, they have supported The Jonas Brothers in the US, and more recently have even managed to reboot themselves as a “proper band”.
In reality, this means they have learnt to play instruments and perform with them live, rather than being a solely singing and dancing affair. Strangely, they chose not to do anything other than sing on their new album, fittingly called Reboot. Apparently this was because, unsurprisingly, it’s all a gimmick, as band-member Yenny confessed: "the band concept was only decided on after half the album had been recorded.”
Concept or not, I Feel You is a warm and gloriously uplifting pop anthem, despite being so 80s it hurts. Oh, and check out those outfits...
