You may have noticed in recent days that the two Koreas have been having a small skirmish with each other, involving artillery fire, angry exchanges and the North declaring “a quasi state of war”. If that phrase baffles you, wait till you hear the reason it all started in the first place.

A few months ago, South Korea resurrected a propaganda system, which basically involved broadcasting music at deafening volume across the DMZ. One of the most prominent songs they played was 4Minute’s 2010 song HuH. The lyrics "Baby, you're kidding me? I do what I want and I do it my way” were chosen to flaunt the South’s freedoms, by highlighting the North’s lack of them.

The broadcasts, which could be heard up to 15 miles into North Korea, did not go down well in Pyongyang, giving 4Minute the dubious honour of unwittingly pushing the two sides towards the brink of war.

When they aren’t being used as pawns in international disputes, 4Minute make uncompromising and frantic hard-pop, of which Crazy is a prime example. Its eastern-influenced bridge is also a favourite device of band member HyunA, from whom we’ll hear more later.
