After the Michael album gave us the final scraps from Jackson's repertoire, many expected that was the last we'd hear from the King of Pop. Even though he may have been on the cusp of something great, fate can be so cruel to the most talented of musicians. The new material may have dried up, but Xscape graced us with some of the best outtakes any pop artist could ask for.
Assembled from songs that were left behind from his prime, most of this album is some of the best new releases any die-hard fan could have hoped for. These tracks may be a bunch of odds and ends, but Slave to the Rhythm is one of the finest Jackson songs that no one had ever heard. Started during the Dangerous sessions, this record is one of the funkiest tracks of Jackson's classic period, with him embracing the darker tendencies of his music without so much as breaking a sweat.
The King of Pop may have been a perfectionist until the end, but letting something like this go under the rug may have been a sign that he had his quality bar set a little too high. I'll admit, the song might not have fit the general aesthetic of an album like Dangerous, but you're telling me that fans deserved to hear Jackson rapping with Shaquille O'Neal before we heard this?
