10 Incredible Michael Jackson Songs You've Probably Never Heard

9. Invincible - Invincible

Most superstars who made their millions in the '80s couldn't really survive the next few decades. Whether it was the dance pop of something like Madonna or the goofy sensibilities of early hip hop, most bands didn't really have a shot of crossing over once we reached the depressive '90s or the new age of the '00s. Michael was no exception to the rule when Invincible became his least popular record to date, but when broken down, it was truly ahead of the curve.

If you think about it, the title track to this album is a good indicator of why it tanked, with most of the instruments being drowned out by electronic assistance that made for a pretty harsh listen. Given that the pop climate was still of the bubblegum variety at this point, this kind of music didn't have a prayer, but time has been much kinder to a song like this.

With its frequent uses of electronic noise and an overall more synthetic approach to the vocals, Jackson seemed to be paving the way for the electronica inflections we would become used to today, whether it was dubstep or the more distorted pop on the charts now. Invincible sunk like a stone when it was first released, but with years of hindsight, Michael Jackson was still changing the game even when he wasn't trying to.
