10 Incredible Michael Jackson Songs You've Probably Never Heard
7. Hollywood Tonight - Michael
Even with over a decade since Michael Jackson's death, it still feels like it's too soon. Despite the shady things that may or may not have went on in his personal life, the fact that we lost one of the greatest entertainers in Western culture at the far too young age of 50 left most pop fans speechless. The This Is It tour may have never went through, but the posthumous album, Michael, offered just a little more magic from pop's royal subject.
As opposed to the more artificial sounds on his previous album Invincible, Hollywood Tonight is a great soul funk track that feels like a throwback to the glory days of Jackson's career. Instead of sounding like a carbon copy of Thriller or Billie Jean, this has its own character to it, sitting in between the cold sounds of Jackson's theatrical work and the raw rock side he would refine on albums like Dangerous.
An artist doesn't usually try to repeat the formula that they had on their previous works, but this song feels like Jackson redefining himself and ready to kick some ass again. We'll never know how the This Is It tour would have played out, but given how much people lit up just before Jacko's death, this could have been the track that launched him back into the pop consciousness.
