10 Incredible Michael Jackson Songs You've Probably Never Heard
6. Come Together - HIStory
As the '80s hit its stride, Michael had sculpted himself into a music making hit machine. It would be one thing to just have a handful of classics under your belt, but even miniscule performances like on Rockwell's Somebody's Watching Me were enough to define the careers of lesser artists. Jackson didn't really need to fill out the rest of his albums with cover material, but when he took on another's song, he put as much lifesblood into it as his own material.
On paper, the idea of pop superstar Michael Jackson covering The Beatles' Come Together feels weird, given the original's sultry delivery and classic bassline. In lesser hands, this would have a lot of potential to suck, but Jackson commands his band just like a rockstar would on the stage. Given the harder vocal performances he gave on songs like Dirty Diana or Give In To Me, Jackson had the right amount of charisma dialed in to pay tribute to some of the greatest pop stars in the world.
After a handful of sessions working with Slash, Michael had also picked up a few cues from his rock friend, making for a track that shows Jackson operating as a full-on rock frontman across every line. You have to have a certain level of musical guts to take on a song by the Fab Four, but as far as Michael is concerned, it's a damn walk in the park.
